Wedding Cake Trends for 2019
Posted on March 25 2019
Your wedding cake will be one of the highlights of your reception, and a special memory you'll have of your wedding forever. With so many wedding cake options, it can be hard to choose which style to go with. To help you find the wedding cake of your dreams, start with these trends we're seeing on brides' planning lists and vision boards.
Wedding Cake Trend #1: The Monogrammed Wedding Cake
Cakes featuring your new couple monogram or initials are popular for this year's weddings. For proof, look no further than Britain's newly wed Princess Eugenie, who had gold monograms around the base of her wedding cake. Monograms lend that extra-personal touch to your wedding cake. (We're fans of monograms and custom items -- see our Wedding Branding products.)
Wedding Cake Trend #2: The Naked Wedding Cake
Continuing the trend from previous years, naked wedding cakes are still in style. Leaving the frosting off the sides of your wedding cake gives it a minimalist look, but that doesn't mean your cake has to be plain. In keeping with the trend, dress up your cake with fresh flowers that coordinate with your bouquet.
Wedding Cake Trend #3: The Textured Wedding Cake
Somewhat the opposite of naked wedding cakes, textured frosting is also popular this year. Anything from simple lines or waves to a geometric pattern like this cake will give your piece de resistance a distinctive touch. This cake also incorporates another trend: Different colors or styles on separate cake layers. Talk with your baker about mixing and matching textures and colors in a tasteful way.
Wedding Cake Trend #4: The Rustic Wedding Cake
For trendy rustic or farmhouse weddings, your wedding cake can go with elements found in the countryside or out in nature. Try fresh greenery and a cut-wood platter for a cake stand -- or a cake layer that looks like wood. Anything with trees or foliage goes, so ask your bakery what it can create for you to achieve this look. (Shop our selection of rustic bride tees and country-style wedding decor here.)
No matter which wedding cake you choose, make it your own. Enjoy the fun of picking out all the elements of your special day and the lifetime of memories you'll have from your wedding.
